Two months ago, on Tuesday July 16th and Wednesday 17th, myself and 20 other individuals convened in a swanky new conference room at the 2805 Lafayette Digital Realty Trust Data Center in Santa Clara, CA to get down and dirty on all things data center.

…………………………………………………….

“I recently attended one of Delta Force IT’s data center bootcamps. I found the content and speakers engaging, and really enjoyed touring some local facilities to better understand the data center as a business. These events are also a great way to network with peers in this space. I highly recommend any events put on by these guys.”
Dustin Romney, Account Executive at Tach Tech

“These guys run a strong workshop based on actual experience in the field. You will learn the essentials – there is no fluff in this material – and be better positioned to do your job. What more could you ask from a workshop?”
Bill Norton, Chief Strategy Officer at IIX

“Being new to the IT world, this Boot Camp was exactly what I needed,. The conversations I’m having now with clients are so much more productive. You walk away with training material that you can use and refer back to on a daily basis. It was also very helpful to meet and network with others in the industry.”
Alaleh Konoudi, Net2EZ Managed Data Centers, Inc.

Day 1 started at 8:30am and covered:

-Industry Overview
-Data Center Owner Types
-Data Center Solution Types
-Billing & Pricing Models
-Hands on Case Studies
-Data Center Contracts
-Data Center Design & Critical Components
-Why Network Matters
-Flavors of “Cloud” Computing

A big thank you goes to Bill Norton, aka Dr. Peering, for stepping in and letting me rest for 90 minutes while he covered the “Why Network Matters” section… getting everyone up to speed on all things network and peering. After a long day, we convened at a restaurant down the road for some drinks and dinner and continued to talk shop and learn from one another.

“The volume of knowledge and experience brought to the table during these events is impressive to say the least. Even if you only retain a fraction of the materials covered, you can not help but walk away a more sophisticated and savvy seller… or buyer for that matter.”
Grant Kirkwood, Founder & CEO, Unitas Global

“Sean and team provided a comfortable environment for their IT Bootcamp where they’ve brought together seasoned industry veterans and rookies alike from all facets of technology – it’s inevitable not to gain a clearer perspective by the well thought out topics and group exercises that followed throughout the coursework not to mention the combined resources and years of experience floating around the room at all times… this is a five star forum in the spirit of healthy competition with applicable materials that you will walk away with and use daily!”

Day 2 started bright and early as well and was where we put everything learned the day prior into practice while touring 3 very distinctly different service providers:

SVColo – private, local, retail and wholesale colocation service provider

QTS – private (soon to be public), national provider offering retail and wholesale colocation along with managed hosting services and a blended managed transit option

Digital Realty – public, global, traditional wholesale data center owner/operator now offering retail colocation services in select markets and facilities

We ended the day by having everyone take a test covering the materials learned over the prior 36 hours. All attendees walked away with:

1. 60+ page Data Center Boot Camp Training Manual

2. The Internet Peering Playbook

3. Data Center Site Infrastructure Tier Standard: Topology booklet

4. laminated/double sided note card with every relevant data center equation anyone would ever need or want to know.
The feedback we received was awesome.

“Having bought and sold many megawatts worth of power within data centers around the world and started and sold a managed services firm in the past, I can assure you the Delta Force IT boot camps should be the de facto training for anyone who wishes to take themselves seriously in the industry.”
Richard Donaldson, Director Global Managed Services, eBay Inc

“Networking will always be king and those who add strategic consulting value will win the day in this contemporary business climate. To this end, DeltaForceIT represents the vanguard of ‘New School’ Silicon Valley IT thought leadership. The classroom atmosphere fosters open and frank dialogue among leading complimentary (and competing) infrastructure providers in the spirit of ‘co-opetition’. It was also refreshing to see both essential technical and interpersonal skills receiving critical attention within the curriculum.”
Evan Smethurst / QTS –Quality Technology Services

Needless to say, the event was a huge success and we are looking forward to putting on more training events in the near future. If you are interested in hosting or attending this event in the future, please visit www.deltaforceit.com and/or contact me at [email protected].
