The Greenest Electron is the One you Never Need to Use – Episode 52 – Shawn Mills
“A data center in Cheyenne Wyoming?” That was literally what I said out loud when I heard Shawn pitch the company to a room full of angel investors in Palo Alto nearly 14 years ago. I was just starting to cut my teeth in the industry working out of San Francisco and simply couldn’t wrap my head around why or how it would make sense to have a data center in Cheyenne when there was so much demand in Chicago, Ashburn and my back door at the time, Silicon Valley.
Fast forward all these years and Shawn has made manifest the vision he pitched way back when. He and his team have built a successful provider of data center, hosting and Microsoft focused managed applications with points of presence across the country. Many have known the company by Green House Data, but with the recent acquisition of Deliveron the company has added many new powerful tools to their tool belt and now rebranded as Lunavi.
Our conversation covers a lot of ground as we walk through Shawn’s journey into the industry, what “green” means to him within the data center industry, how he’s evolved as an executive through the different growth cycles of the company and how the movie “The Social Dilemma” has changed the conversation re: social media with our children. Enjoy!
